Last Supper opening hours and closing days

Opening Hours
Tuesday to Sunday, 08:15 to 19:00, with last admission at 18:45. Closed on Mondays. Those are the hours of the Cenacolo Vinciano at Santa Maria delle Grazie, and they matter less than they would at an ordinary museum, because you cannot simply arrive inside them: entry is by compulsory timed reservation, so the only hours that concern you are the ones your slot falls in. The Monday closure is the part that ruins itineraries. If your one free day in Milan is a Monday, the painting is not available at any price.

Why the hours are not the useful number

At most attractions the opening times tell you when you can turn up. Here they only tell you the window inside which slots exist. Reservation is compulsory for every ticket type, including the free ones, so a wide-open Wednesday afternoon is no help at all if every slot in it is taken. The number that decides your visit is the release date, not the opening time — that is explained on the official ticket page.

What works

  • A long day, from early morning to early evening, six days a week
  • Late slots exist, with last admission at 18:45
  • Timed entry means no queueing inside opening hours

Worth knowing

  • Closed all day Monday, with no exceptions to plan around
  • Open hours mean nothing without a booked slot
  • The last admission is fifteen minutes before closing, not on the hour
Insider tip

If your trip includes a Monday, put the Last Supper on any other day and give Monday to something that opens. Working out on the morning itself that the refectory is shut is the most avoidable disappointment in Milan.

Picking a slot

Early and late slots tend to be the ones still available when the middle of the day has gone, and neither is worse: the room is climate-controlled and lit the same way at 08:15 as at 18:30, and the cap is forty people regardless. What you get is identical — fifteen minutes either way. Tour departure times work the same way, so book the tour whose slot suits your day rather than the one that looks best on paper.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Last Supper opening hours?

Tuesday to Sunday, 08:15 to 19:00, with last admission at 18:45. Entry is by compulsory timed reservation, so the hours only describe when slots exist.

Is the Last Supper closed on Mondays?

Yes, all day, every Monday. It is the single most common way people lose their visit, so plan the rest of the week around it.

Can I just turn up during opening hours?

No. Reservation is compulsory for every ticket type, including the free ones, and there is no walk-up counter. What to do when the calendar is empty is on the sold-out page.
